John L Sullivan is coming to town! The famous boxer (or at least his modern manifestation) will be at the Nunda Historical Society on Wednesday May 8th to share stories of his remarkable life and career.
The program “The Great John L. Sullivan – Accurately Portrayed & Life Story” will be presented by Brendan Heaney, a teacher and local historian who grew up in Belfast, where Sullivan once trained. The talk will cover Sullivan’s life, boxing career and his experiences as
one of America’s best known sports figures. Heaney will also detail Sullivan’s connections to the Genesee Valley, including the Genesee Falls Hotel in Portageville.
The program begins at 7 PM, is free and open to the public. The Rose Shave Gallery and Nunda Museum will be open to visitors before and after the meeting. The Nunda Historical Building is located at 24 Portage Road next to Kiwanis Park and is handicapped accessible. For more information call 585-465-0971.
