NUNDA – Nunda’s Volunteer Ambulance Service turned 50 on New Year’s Day.
According to Nunda Ambulance, the corp was organized on Jan. 1, 1967 to serve the residents of Nunda and surrounding areas.
“We would like to thank the charter members that had the foresight to create this long-standing EMS service that Nunda, Dalton, Portage and portions of Grove is fortunate to have,” posted Nunda Ambulance to Facebook.
The corp has only grown with the times, as has Nunda. The corp has 24 members, comprised of 15 EMTs, eight of whom are from Nunda and seven of whom are from Dalton. They also have nine First Responders, all of whom live in Nunda.
They now answer more than quadruple the number of calls that they took in their first year.
“In that first year, the corp responded to 110 calls,” posted Nunda Ambulance. “In 2016, we responded to 488 emergencies.”
