GENESEO – Newly elected SUNY Geneseo president Dr. Denise Battles reached out to members of the local community on Thursday with the following letter, thanking everyone at the College and the community and extending her best wishes:
I write to you with great excitement following my recent selection as SUNY Geneseo’s next President, with a start date of approximately July 1, 2015. While my campus arrival is several months away, I want to take this opportunity to express how honored and humbled I am to have the opportunity to join the campus and community in this leadership role. I accepted that honor fully cognizant of the great responsibility that the position will entail.

My campus visit made clear what a special place Geneseo is. It is evident that there is a deep commitment to providing transformative learning experiences rooted in the strong tradition of the liberal arts and sciences, as well as a passion for the institution’s mission of developing socially responsible citizens. I am especially appreciative that the College has enjoyed such strong leadership and stewardship by its many stakeholders. Truly, Geneseo is an exemplar among the public liberal arts colleges.
I want to thank the students, faculty, staff, administrators, alumni, community members, and other friends of the College for extending such a warm welcome to me and my husband, Dr. Michael Mills. Please accept my best wishes for an exceptional spring semester. I am enthusiastic about what we will accomplish together and look forward to joining you soon!
