UPDATE: The first version of this story mistakenly reported 17 puppies; we stand corrected. Even more astonishing, Diamond had 19.

1-year-old Diamond, a recently rescued pit mix, has given birth to 19 puppies. Diamond, who just barely escaped euthanasia, was cared for in her heavily pregnant state by Going to the Dogs Rescue, an organization based in Perry.
Currently, Diamond and her puppies are going to need help from the community, particularly in feeding the puppies. 19 is a very large number. The rescue organization will be bottle feeding the puppies in groups and rotating them so everyone has time with mom. This is a big undertaking, and while no one guessed that she was carrying that many pups, rescuers say, unanimously, “We wouldn’t change a thing!”
According to the group’s press release, “We will be needing help with bottle feeding, and of course will be looking for foster homes and adopters in the coming weeks. So if you would like to help please visit our website and check out the Volunteer, Foster or Adoption Applications!”
Going To The Dogs will also be having a Puppy Shower to welcome these beautiful babies, and shower Diamond with some needed supplies. Details can be found on their site, www.goigtothedogsrescue.org. Donations are also gratefully accepted, via PayPal, using the email address goingtotherescuers@yahoo.com.
