YORK – A Piffard homeowner got a surprise on Wednesday when a car suddenly wound up high and dry on his front lawn. The car apparently left the road and hit the mailbox of the house next door before safely coming to a stop in the lawn.
The homeowner, Gary Blythe, said that the driver and his passenger narrowly missed a telephone pole and a tree once their car left the road.
“He came right up this way,” said Blythe, indicating the gouges in the lawn where the tires had run. “He barely missed the pole and then came a couple feet from hitting the tree.”
Fortunately, neither occupant of the vehicle was injured in the incident, though the rear bumper of the car was almost completely torn off.
Blythe indicated that the house next door has been unoccupied for several years.
