NYLON – According to 13WHAM News, Ontario County District Attorney Michael Tantillo announced that no charges will be filed against NASCAR champion Tony Stewart, whose racecar struck and killed 20-year-old Kevin Ward Jr. in August.
SyracuseNews.com added that Tantillo announced at a press conference that Ward had traces of marijuana in his system at the time of the crash.
Grand jury proceedings began Tuesday to determine if charges against Stewart would be pursued.
The fatal crash occurred on Aug. 9 at Canandaigua Motorsports Park.
Chuck Hebing, who was driving in front of Stewart at the time of the crash, was among those called to testify during the grand jury proceedings, he told the Democrat & Chronicle in Rochester.
Stewart hit Ward after Ward got out of his sprint car to confront Stewart, the Daily Messenger in Canandaigua reported.
