On Tuesday, February 23 my wife drove me to the Dome in Rochester. Unsure what to expect we had blocked several hours out of our day in preparation of what we thought could be confusing, burdensome event. We were wrong.
To our delight everyone was professional. The lines moved quickly and the experience of signing in, checking my credentials (driver’s license et al), and getting the shot took no more than 10 minutes.
Although I despise needles, this shot was surprising mild. The needle inserted into my arm was quick and felt smaller than most needles.
Afterward we waited in a holding area for 15 minutes just to ensure there was no reaction to the shot. Like 99% of those who get the shot, there was no adverse reaction.
Toward the end of my 15 minutes a National Guardsman came towards me. These soldiers were spotted throughout the dome to support the overall effort. With a smile he assisted my exit from the dome by wheeling me to my car and ensuring I got in safely.
I was proud of the service having been a National Guardsman myself from 1969-74. His overall helpful demeanor was one more reason that getting the vaccine is an efficient, fast and dare I say, enjoyable experience.
