LIVINGSTON COUNTY — Livingston County Sheriff Deuputies and law enforcement officials from across the region completed their annual mounted training here in the county.
According to Undersheriff James Szczesniak approximately 25 riders and their mounts from Chautauqua, Monroe, Niagara and Wyoming County Sheriffs Offices as well as members of the Rochester Police Department’s Mounted Unit.
The training, led by Sgt. Gary Cicoria put the participants through various scenarios that they may face when called upon to serve their communities some of which could include traffic control, crowd control, ground searches, scene security as well as many others. The Horse has been called a “great partner” by many involved with the mounted unit.
“After retiring from the Rochester Police Department Gary Cicoria offered his expertise in the Mounted Patrol field to his home County, in 1992 Sheriff John York formalized the Mounted Patrol Unit under Cicoria’s leadership,” Undersheriff Szczesniak stated in a press release, “Sgt. Cicoria has trained personnel on an International level and we fortunate that he shares this expertise throughout the region.”
Joining Sgt. Cicoria in the Livingston County Mounted Unit is Sgt. Aarron Galvin, Deputy Chanler, Deputy Lynch and Deputy Morgan.
