MT. MORRIS PLANS 1000 ACRE SOLAR FARM
There is a proposal for a large solar farm in Mt Morris, which would be able to serve 38,000 homes, using about 1000 acres of land leased from private landowners. The plan is being proposed by EDF Renewables. The Morris Ridge Solar project will be bounded by a part of Sonyea State Forest on the east and by Letchworth Park on the west, on both sides of Rt. 408 (Mt. Morris-Nunda Rd.), south of the
village of Mt. Morris.
A map of the proposed area to be affected can be found on p. 14 at https://www.edf-re.com/wp-content/uploads/Morris-Ridge-Final-PIP-Plan.pdf .
According to the plan ‘Each section of the Facility will be surrounded by fencing and sections bordering public roads or nearby residences will be designed to include landscape buffering outside the fence.” The plans are for the proposed Morris Ridge Solar Farm to be in operation by 2022.
There are two open houses planned for the general public, both at the Genesee Valley River Restaurant at 134 North Main St., in Mt. Morris. The first is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 6, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., and the other is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 7, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
