MOUNT MORRIS – In an effort to raise money for the local chapter of the American Cancer Society, the Mount Morris and York boys varsity basketball teams will compete in the Coaches vs. Cancer game on Saturday, Feb. 7.
Coaches vs. Cancer will include a 50/50 basket raffle, and luminary bags with a $5 donation, to be placed around the gym and lit at halftime in order to allow community members to honor a loved one.
In 2014, this event successfully raised $6,000 for the American Cancer Society.
This event echoes the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic, an annual college basketball tournament held in New York City benefiting cancer research and featuring 12 schools from all over the country.
While Mount Morris and York are athletic rivals, this game is about more than basketball.
Coaches vs. Cancer represents two communities coming together to help bring awareness and raise money for cancer research.
