MOUNT MORRIS – A healthy baby was born early Thursday morning due to calm and cool coordination by 911 dispatchers, police officers with the Mount Morris Police Department and Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, and a father whose wife started having trouble while in labor at their residence.
According to a joint press release from Sheriff Thomas Dougherty and Mount Morris Police Chief Kenneth Mignemi, the instruction of 911 dispatchers at the Sheriff’s Office and police officers on scene helped the parents and baby Kennedy Jean throughout the emergency.
“We could not have done it without you guys,” said the new father, Tim Diliberto. “We really appreciate the response from everyone involved.”
Thursday morning at approximately 2:44 a.m., the Emergency Communications Center received a call from Diliberto reporting that his wife, Audrey, was in labor at their residence and he needed help.
Grant answered the call for help, and using his Emergency Medical Dispatching experience, began instructing Mr. Diliberto on the proper procedures to follow. While Dispatcher Grant was giving the instructions, Sheriff’s Office Dispatcher Lonni Carroll began dispatching both Emergency Medical Services and Law Enforcement, giving them the details as they came in.
While awaiting emergency responders, Dispatcher Grant kept the expecting father calm and continued giving instruction.
Mount Morris Police Officer Tim Bryant was the first to arrive, and took over for Diliberto in preparation for the birth. Mount Morris Police Officer Mark Brado was next to arrive and immediately took over phone duties for dad.
Dispatcher Grant continued to give instructions for the officers. Not long after, the Deputy Sweeting and Livingston County EMS arrived shortly after and assisted on scene as well.
Dougherty and Mignemi report that mom, dad, and baby Kennedy are all doing well. Kennedy was born at 6 pounds, 5 ounces and 18 inches.
“It’s really impressive to sit back and think, wow, I just helped a life come into this world,” said Sheriff’s Office Dispatcher Curt Grant. “I’m proud of the way everyone worked together. We often just handle the bad calls, but when something good like this happens, it makes you proud.”
