MOUNT MORRIS – The Mt Morris Dam is efficiently handling especially high waters from this weekend’s storms, at no risk of flooding the gorge upstream.

Staff at the Dam are confident that the increased water volume will not harm the dam itself, and that the Genesee River did not swell to dangerous water levels.
“In this case the runoff didn’t affect us much,” said Steve Winslow, manager of the Mt Morris Dam. “The river rose significantly in places downstream of us, like Avon and Rochester, but even if we had closed off all floodgates, the river would only have dropped an inch or two, and the river was nowhere near bank-level.”
It appears that Avon sustained the worst damage in Livingston County when Little Conesus Creek quickly overflowed and ripped apart a bridge and multiple roads.
