Hello Lima! Fall has arrived and with it comes Oktoberfest and Apples and Pumpkins and Halloween and most importantly, Civic Responsibility. Yes, it is time to vote again on November 2nd. You can gain some insight into the election by using the Livingston County Website https://www.livingstoncounty.us/ select the Board of Elections under Departments and there you will find sample ballots and a list of Offices to be filled. Voting at the local level where you know the people running and the issues affect you directly is very important. It is the foundation of our Constitutional Republic. Your Vote makes a difference! Take a look at who is running and if you have questions, be sure to reach out to them. Don’t be shy, ask your questions. While there is no guarantee that the answers will be the ones you want or expect, you will be armed with the truth and so can make the best choice possible when casting your vote.
It is also time for YOU to become involved in your community. Lima is a great community and your help is needed to continue the forward momentum. The Town of Lima needs volunteers for the Planning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals, Assessment Board of Review, Ethics Board, Agricultural Advisory Board, The Historic Preservation Commission and the Library Board. Simply go to the Town Web site at www.lima-ny.org click the Volunteer tab and fill out the Board Volunteer Form and drop it here at the Town Hall. We will contact you with the next steps. The Town is also looking for a Town Historian. The process here is different: call me at the Town Hall 582-1130 so we can chat. Remember: when we all do what we can, everyone wins.
Be sure to be at the four corners for Veteran’s Day November 11th at 11AM. Lima’s Francis M. Dalton American Legion Post 282 and Kenneth B. Keating VFW Post 26 will be there for the ceremony. Afterward, the VFW will be drawing the winning ticket for the Patriotic Quilt that is hanging in the Reynolds Building window (between CopyTown and the Weshop). If you look at the quilt carefully, you will see that all the stars are made from neckties. Tickets are available at the American Hotel, American Legion Post 282, Fanatics, Jonny B’s custom BBQ and Tyson’s Upper Deck. The VFW uses the proceeds to benefit Veterans.
Pencil on your calendar the month of July here in Livingston County. The LivCo Walls (Mural Festival) is coming! 9 Villages, 9 murals. Lima will be receiving one on the South Side of the Ellis Block (where JonnyBs is). Come on out and see how a large scale piece of art is installed.
See you around Town!
