GENESEO – Two local women were arrested by Geneseo Police last Wednesday as part of an investigation into the theft of more than $460 in merchandise, namely a sewing machine and a bicycle helmet, from Walmart.
According to Geneseo Police Chief Eric Osganian, Kristin Bergeron, 25, of Mount Morris, and Amanda Hanley, 27, from Nunda, were arrested for Petit Larceny after video backtracking revealed they at first tried to return the items without ever purchasing them, and wound up walking straight out of Walmart with the sewing machine, the helmet, and their small child.
“Customer service didn’t let them return the items,” said Chief Osganian. “But they did allow the two to walk out. We were able to backtrack video showing them at the store and their plate numbers, and were able to track them down.”
Osganian added that Bergeron was additionally charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and the arrest was also referred to the Livingston County Child Protective Services Department.
Both are scheduled to appear in Geneseo Village Court on January 6.
