YORK – A Webster man was arrested by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office for burglary on Saturday after allegedly barging into a home in Retsof and getting into a fight with another man inside, striking a child in the head in the process.
According to a press release from Sheriff Thomas Dougherty, John Roessel, 56, was arrested for felony Burglary in the Second Degree, misdemeanor Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree, two counts of misdemeanor Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and two counts of Harassment in the Second Degree, a violation.
On Dec. 13, the Livingston County Emergency Communications Center (911) received a call reporting that there was a physical altercation at a residence in the hamlet of Retsof, Town of York.
Responding Deputies accuse Roessel of entering the house uninvited and instigating a physical altercation with a man who lives there. Allegedly, property in the house was damaged and a child under the age of 10 struck in the head during the fight.
Roessel allegedly fled in his vehicle before Deputies arrived. A short time later, Deputy Connor Sanford located and stopped Roessel’s vehicle on Telephone Road in the Town of York, and took Roessel into custody.
Roessel was arraigned in York Town Court and remanded to the Livingston County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 secured bond.
Handling the arrest for the Sheriff’s Office was Deputy Ryan Dale. Assisting was Sheriff’s Investigator Jeff Wiedrick, Sergeant Matt Orman, Deputy Matt Moran and Deputy Connor Sanford. New York State Police assisted on scene.
