AVON – Two Rochester residents were arrested on Monday, Feb. 16 for charges related to Felony Drug Possession as well as Criminal Possession of Stolen Property.
According to a press release from Livingston County Sheriff Thomas Dougherty, Juan Lopez, 51, of Rochester, was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, a class B Felony. Lopez was remanded to the custody of the Sheriff in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 secured bond. He is being held in the Livingston County Jail.
“The great work by the deputies continues and we are all proud of their hard work and dedication to making this county the safest place to live,” said Sheriff Dougherty. “Operation Safe Interstate is a proven success and is making a big difference in not only highway safety but making our entire county a safer place to live. We have always had a strong presence off the highway and will keep that high presence because we know criminals are now trying to avoid Deputies on the Interstate.”
At approximately 5:28 p.m. on Feb. 16, Deputy Shawn Whitford of the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office conducted a routine traffic stop on I-390 in the town of Avon after spotting an exhaust violation. The vehicle’s driver was identified as 34 year old Lois Bonilla-Roman and it was discovered that she was operating the vehicle with a suspended license, at which time she was placed into custody.
A search of the vehicle uncovered a plastic bag with a white substance in it that later tested positive as cocaine. The vehicle’s passenger was identified as 51 year old Juan Lopez of Rochester. Lopez later admitted the substance found in the vehicle was his. Two more small bags of suspect cocaine were also found inside Lopez’s shoes.
During the course of the search, two New York State inspection stickers were located inside the vehicle and the serial numbers were checked. It was found that the stickers had been reported stolen from a dealership in Monroe County on February 13, 2015, an incident that was under investigation by the LCSO at the time of this arrest. The LCSO is working closely with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and it is possible that there will be more charges in the future.
The arrests were handled by Deputy Shawn Whitford and Deputy Connor Sanford, both of the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office.
