Dave Coyne, Tom Jerris, Mark Zimmer, Doug Ehmann, and Tim Dwyer have been toughing out the cold winter weather and training together on group runs for months.
“It’s an honor to run one Boston Marathon in your life,” said Jerris, who hosts many of the runs at his Conesus Lake home. “You can’t really explain it until you get there.”
Local running icon Dave Coyne, 61, will be attempting to complete his 40th Boston Marathon, a feat that has spanned 6 decades and started in 1968.
Zimmer will be running in his first Boston Marathon and Tim Dwyer who travels from Rochester to run with the group will be going for his 10th consecutive.
“The prestigiousness of the Boston Marathon makes it special,” said Dwyer who has also completed marathons in Chicago, and New York City.
Last year Tim Chichester, from Mount Morris, was the overall second American finisher as runners battled record high temperatures.
In order for Coyne to complete his 40th Boston Marathon it won’t be an easy feat as he has an old calf injury recently resurface.
“I hope to make the halfway point before my calf knots up.” said Coyne, who had a similar injury a year ago. “Last year wasn’t pretty but I finished.”
