LIVINGSTON COUNTY — SUNY Geneseo hosted a Meet the Candidates forum Wednesday, with candidates for three elected offices participating. The candidatures introduced themselves and then some of the participants were asked topical questions in a low-key debate section.
State Assembly Candidates: Pat Galivan, Bill Nojay, and Randy Weaver.
During the State Assembly debate section, the strongest disagreement was between Randy Weaver and Bill Nojay on hydrofracking. Nojay said that he felt that the decision should be left up to scientists who know more about fracking, and not left to politicians. Weaver felt that ultimately, elected officials should make the decision as they are elected to do so.
Livingston County District Attorney Candidates: Greg McCaffrey, Steve Sessler, and Eric Schiener.
The most frequently discussed theme was experience. Schiener pointed out that his entire career has been spent as a prosecutor, which makes him the better candidate. Sessler and McCaffrey both argued that working on the defense side, as they both have for periods of their careers, make them more well-rounded and better prepared, knowing both sides of the law. All three District Attorney candidates will be participating in another debate that will be streamed live at the GeneseeSun.com. The debate is sponsored by Cannon and Van Allen LLP and will be moderated by the GeneseeSun.com.
New York State Supreme Court Justice Candidates: Scott Odorisi, Sean Gleason, David Michael Barry, and Gail Donofrio all made introductory statements but did not participate in a debate.
The election is Nov 6th.
