The Reactions are a modern rock band formed between classes at RIT. The current trio began in May 2012 and includes locals Peter Goebel – Guitar, Bass, Vocals, Keyboards (Rush, NY), Mitch Bennett – Guitar, Bass, Vocals (Rochester, NY) and Cam Hebda – Drums (Avon, NY).
“What I enjoy most is performing for our fans on stage – there is nothing better than creating a high energy sound environment where people get the chance for release and escape from the daily grind,” said drummer, Cam Hebda.
The Reactions originally formed in July of 2011 by chance. It all started when Goebel, Hebda & Anthony Rideout (Henrietta, NY) played an impromptu house party performance in Rochester, NY and really meshed as performers. Shortly after, the trio brought on Bill Hartigan (Canisius, NY) for some added muscle on guitar & vocals. Once the dust settled, The Reactions were born and since then, they have come into their own as an up and coming band by marrying classic & indie rock, funk, latin and jam elements.
However, in May 2012, guitarist Bill Hartigan and bass man Anthony Rideout moved on to different parts of the U.S., Mitch Bennett joined the band. These days, The Reactions utilize a trio format and the multi-instrumental curiousity of Goebel and Bennett along with Hebda’s impressive skills on the drums to create their unique sound.
“Improvisation is a key for us – every time we play a show we are creating something new in front of the audience. We always rely on communication and the musical affinity we have for each other to bring an original performance to the listener with a mixture of written original material and off-the-cuff musical constructions,” explains Hebda.
The Reactions have played at many illustrious live music venues throughout the greater Monroe County area such as the Bug Jar, Lovin’ Cup, Boulder Coffee and they’re always looking for more opportunities to perform for their fans. You can check out their upcoming shows on The Reactions’ Facebook page.
