A loaded handgun was found outside Livingston Hall on the SUNY Geneseo campus at 7 a.m. on Tuesday morning, October 5. Ownership of the gun was unknown by press time.
The gun was discovered by a maintenance worker for the college, who saw a fanny pack sitting on the bench in the parking loop, with no one nearby. When he opened the fanny pack, he found a loaded gun which he turned in to University police. E-mail letters were sent out campus wide a few hours later notifying them of the incident. People were also reminded that guns of any kind are prohibited on the SUNY Campus by New York State Law.
Chief Christopher Prusak of the University Police said there was no urgent threat to the community, and since canceling classes or putting the campus under lockdown has “a significant impact on the college community,” the University Police Department determined doing so was not warranted. However, investigation into the incident and determining ownership of the gun is ongoing.
