LIVONIA – As part of spirit week at Livonia Central School last Tuesday, one student picked a special and familiar police officer as her ‘hero’ and ‘twin’ for the day.
In September, Livingston County Sheriff’s Deputy Brittany Smyder started her first day as Livonia’s School Resource Officer (SRO). As part of Tuesday’s ‘superhero/twinning day,’ a student was her exact twin, even copying the Deputy’s hair and watch.
“I’m so happy to be a positive role model for the kids,” said Deputy Smyder.
SRO’s function as teachers, counselors, and law enforcement officers for schools. The National Association of School Resource Officers trains law enforcement to educate, counsel, and protect school communities, lead by example, and promote a positive image of law enforcement to local kids.
Some local kids took to Facebook to sing their praises for Deputy Smyder.
“She comes to lunch bunch with us, it is always fun,” said Riley Lewis, a young Livonia resident.
