LIVONIA – The Livonia Bulldogs defeated the Hornell Red Raiders 56-43 on Friday night to split the division title between the two athletic powerhouses.
The Bulldogs started the game very defensively holding the Red Raiders to only 6 points in the first quarter. The team was ultimately able to stop the Red Raiders notorious big men holding them to only 6 points in the first half of the game.
“I think we played really well overall, were able to keep their big men in check and held their best player to only 6 points,” said Head Coach Matt Young. “We also did a great job in the second half when we went on a 15-4 run at the end of the game to secure the victory.”
Bulldogs forward Jon Mohnkern really applied to offensive pressure leading the Bulldogs with a total of 15 points and seven rebounds. Forward Maddux Minton also did an excellent job coming off the bench to ignite the offense with his 11 point performance and and his phenomenal energy.
The Red Raiders eventually came back to tie the game 39-39 in the third quarter until one of their players was called for a technical foul after he spiked the ball on the court in disagreement with the call by the referee.
After the technical the Bulldogs coasted through the rest of the game hitting clutch free throws to keep the game out of reach.
Congratulations to both teams on their outstanding play this season.
