LIVONIA – The Livonia Fire Department, now one of the keepers of a piece of the south tower of the World Trade Center, held a memorial ceremony to remember those who lost their lives in the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
According to a Facebook post from the Livonia Fire Department, they with many other fire departments, EMS, the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, State Police and veterans attended to pay their respects.
The fire department tolled a bell at 9:59 a.m. and 10:28 a.m., when each tower fell. Members of the VFW, Sheriff Thomas Dougherty, and Kevin Niedermaier, Director of Livingston County Emergency Management gave speeches. All of the names of those fallen at the Pentagon and the World Trade Center attacks were read and flowers were placed on the memorial sign.
The ceremony ended with the Tolling of 5-5-5 to signify the lost Firefighters and Amazing Grace on the bagpipes.
The sign will be on display at our station in the coming days.
