In an ongoing commitment to the safety and well-being of its students, Livonia MHS is proud to announce its highly anticipated Mock DUI Event, designed to raise awareness about the dangers of driving under the influence (DUI) and promote responsible decision-making among
high school students. The event, taking place on May 17, 2023, at approximately 9:15 am, aims to underscore the importance of this issue, its potential life-altering consequences, and the vital need to prioritize safety before the upcoming prom night.
The Mock DUI Event serves as a poignant reminder of the severe consequences associated with impaired driving. By creating a simulated accident scene, complete with emergency response teams, law enforcement, and student actors, the event offers an immersive experience that allows participants to witness the harrowing aftermath of a DUI-related incident. Through this powerful demonstration, students witness firsthand the devastating impact that a single poor decision can have on their lives and the lives of others.
Principal John Gammon highlights the significance of the event, stating, “Our Mock DUI Event is not just about staging a realistic accident scene. It goes beyond that – it is an opportunity for our students to confront the harsh realities of impaired driving in a safe and controlled environment. By doing so, we hope to instill a deep sense of responsibility and empower our students to make smart choices, particularly during milestone events like prom night.”
The Mock DUI Event also plays a critical role in preparing students for this weekend’s Junior/Senior Prom. By holding this event prior to prom, Livonia MHS seeks to provide Juniors and Seniors with the knowledge and awareness needed to make informed decisions. With prom often being associated with fun, excitement, and memorable moments, it is crucial that students understand the potential risks and take necessary precautions to ensure a safe and enjoyable evening for everyone involved.
The Mock DUI Event at Livonia MHS is a collaborative effort that involves the support and participation of Livingston County Sheriff’s Department, the Livonia Fire Department, Livonia Ambulance, Fugles Auto Parts, Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home, and our passionate student leaders in the MHS. The collective aim is to create a lasting impact on the students’ attitudes and behavior towards alcohol and substance use while driving.
Our student leaders, who have planned most of this event, will be creating a full video of this impactful event. Mr. Gammon would like to thank the Livonia community for supporting this Livonia tradition. By joining together and embracing the Mock DUI Event, we can unite in our commitment to promoting a culture of safety, responsibility, and sound decision-making among our youth.
