GENESEO — Livingston Lanes and Pub and SUNY Geneseo student athletes have coordinated a fundraiser to raise money for the families of Kelsey Annese and Matt Hutchinson, the two students who lost their lives at 18 Wadsworth Street on Jan. 17.
According to Drew Madarasz, a junior at Geneseo who is working with Livingston Lanes on Lakeville Road through the ‘Adopt-A-Business’ program, the College’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is leading the effort to raise money in honor of Annese and Hutchinson. Many sports teams and Greek organizations have expressed a strong interest in getting involved in the fundraising efforts.
“Though I did not know Matt and Kelsey personally, the stories I heard about these amazing people made me eager to do something to help those who were affected directly,” said Madarasz.
The fundraiser will occur on Feb. 21. from noon to 7 p.m. at Livingston Lanes and Pub at 4260 Lakeville Road Geneseo. Tickets will cost $6 per game of bowling, which includes the cost of shoe rental. Half of all proceeds will go directly into SAAC’s memorial account in honor of Annese and Hutchinson. T-shirts will also be available for sale at the event.
Participants will be limited to one game of bowling to allow all attendees an opportunity to play.
Madarasz first suggested the idea of a fundraiser to the staff at Livingston Lanes and then to SAAC. The idea generated strong support from both sides.
Once SAAC completes its fundraising efforts, it will collectively decide the best way to redistribute the money raised.
