LIVINGSTON COUNTY – The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office is now offering firearms training to Livingston County residents.
According to a press release from Livingston County Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty, the instructors are Sheriff’s Deputies who are certified Firearms Instructors by the NYS Division of Criminal Justice, and the course is a great complement for anyone with a NYS pistol permit.
“This is a great opportunity for those that have never had any formal training in the safe handling of firearms to receive that training,” said Sheriff Dougherty. “The training is made available by highly trained Livingston County Deputy Sheriffs. If you have just received or you are considering getting a NYS pistol permit, I would encourage you to sign up.”
The safety course is designed to instruct students in proper weapon handling, safe firearms storage, equipment selection, firearms nomenclature, weapon maintenance, shooting fundamentals as well as laws and responsibilities.
The course will be held once a month at the Emergency Operations Center at the Hamptons Corners facility and will last four hours. The class is available to anyone over 18 years of age that resides in or owns property in Livingston County. The cost of the class is $25 and participants must pre-register.
Course dates and times are available here.
Registration forms can be obtained in person at the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office headquarters at 4 Court Street in Geneseo or online here.
