GENESEO — Police officers with several agencies got in the Christmas spirit this weekend by spreading the joy of gift giving to many children at Walmart’s annual Shop With a Cop event.
The event is hosted by Walmart and participated in by members of the Geneseo Police Department, Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police and New York State Environmental Conservation Police.
“We thank Walmart for their continued partnership and their generosity,” posted the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office to Facebook. “Also, a thank you to all the officers and deputies, as well as the troopers who joined us to shop with the kids.”
Every year they apply for Walmart grants in order to spread the Christmas spirit and tradition of gift giving to children across Livingston County whose families are in financial hardship.
The children are selected by the School Resource Officers for Geneseo, Dansville, York, Keshequa and Livonia schools.
Each child was partnered with an officer to peruse the aisles of Walmart for their favorite toy and walk out of the store with it for free, paid for by a grant.
