Livingston County Judges Recuse Themselves from Keiffer Case

LIVINGSTON COUNTY – Livingston County Judges Robert Wiggins and Dennis Cohen have recused themselves from the case against Andrew Keiffer, wherein he allegedly shot and killed a neighbor’s rottweiler and injured their smaller dog in West Sparta.

Keiffer plans to run for Livingston County Sheriff, and has said on multiple occasions that he believes he was arrested for political reasons.

“When a judge is honest with factors that could bias them in being fair and impartial,the honorable thing to do is to recuse themselves.” said Keiffer’s lawyer, Mark Foti. “The way Mr. Keiffer is treated in some instances, there is sometimes the appearance of bias. Anyone with direct involvement in local politics should not be responsible for handling this case.”

Keiffer stands accused of being responsible for the shooting death of ‘Zoey’ a rottweiler belonging to his West Sparta neighbor.

Keiffer had a court date scheduled this Thursday, but his case has now been adjourned until an alternative judge can be found.
