A press release from Assemblyman Joe Errigo announced the accreditation through the Local Emergency Management Accreditation Program. Livingston County’s Office of Emergency Management is headed by Director Kevin Niedermaier.
“It is with tremendous pride I announce that our own Livingston County Office of Emergency Management is one of only four in the state to receive accreditation from the Local Emergency Management Accreditation Program,” said Errigo. “Whether it’s a fire or a 911 call in a remote area, responding to any emergency requires intense training, preparation and coordination from our emergency personnel, and clearly these individuals have gone above and beyond what’s asked of them. Today’s accreditation is an indication of the hard work, diligence and sacrifice from all those who made this accomplishment possible, and I am proud to have them in our corner in times of crisis.”
The accreditation program is the first state-level program for local emergency management agencies in the nation. Livingston County joins New York City, Broome County and Oneida County as the first four emergency management organizations to achieve this status in the state.
The program, developed in partnership with the New York State Emergency Management Association, includes a series of standards that local emergency management offices must meet to obtain this professional accreditation. The State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services administers the program on behalf of the Local Emergency Management Accreditation Council, which serves as the governing body for the program. Livingston County received recognition for its achievements at the 2018 New York State Emergency Management Association Winter Conference attended by emergency management professionals from across New York State.
