MOUNT MORRIS — Livingston Arts has updated its October through December class schedule with a variety of creative classes for folks of all skill levels.
Registration for classes must be received at least three business days in advance of the class. Since most classes have a minimum registration of three people, registrants will be notified and refunded if a class is canceled. Unless otherwise noted, prices include the cost of supplies. Introduction to Wet Feltmaking taught by Margaret Carlisle on Dec. 15 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
Make trendy gifts with soap, water, and wool. Get introduced to wet felting by making a bar of felted soap. Move on to a choker-style necklace. Participants will leave with two completed projects. Ages 10 and up. $40
Quilting: Sew a Simple Purse taught by Elaine Widener on Nov. 8 and 15 from 6-8 p.m.
Sew a simple purse using just a straight stitch. You will be able to embellish the purse to match your personality. Ages 16 and up. Supplies needed: 2 coordinating fat quarters of fabric, thread, sewing machine (or follow along on demonstration machine and finish at home). $30 plus cost of supplies
Clay for Kids taught by Lyndsay Clark on Saturdays, Oct. 13-Nov. 17 from 11a.m.-1 p.m.
Kids ages 6-10 will learn hand-building techniques such as pinch pots, coils, slabs and press molds. Students will learn all about the clay process from bone dry and leather hard to bisque and glaze kiln firing. We will explore historic ceramics and learn from artists from the past. Ceramic pieces can be functional such as bowls, cups and tiles but they can also be objects of art. Almost anything is possible with clay! Open house Oct. 6. $120 for 6-week session
Mixed-Level Clay Class taught by Alysha Baier on Oct. 11-Nov. 15, Thursdays from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
This class is a mixed level course for people interested in learning the basics about making objects of use and objects of display. Students will learn about form and function, methods of building, surface design and an introduction to glazing. Demonstrations will include many different slab-built forms, both functional and decorative, surface treatment and alteration as well as a light introduction to the wheel. At the end of the course students will have finished work to use and display in their homes. Ages 12 and up. 6 weeks- $108 plus clay ($1 per pound, start with 10 pounds).
Learn how to enamel with the Sgrafitto Process taught by Pam Hill on Oct. 11 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. or Oct. 27 from 11a.m. -1 p.m.
Sgrafitto, where an unfired layer of enamel is applied over a previously fired layer of enamel of a contrasting color, and then partly removed with a tool to create the design, like a stencil effect. $30 ($5 tool deposit).
Let it Snow, Let it Snow… taught by Pam Hill on Dec. 13 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m .
Want to work with silver? Learn Cloisonné. Make a special gift for you or a loved one! Take a simple shape and add your own lines of silver wire to create something elegantly simple. Make a beautiful snowman pin using copper enamels using the technique called cloisonné, French for “cloisonné” or “cell.” A technique in which metal wires are bent to form a design; granulars of colored ground glass enamel is then inlaid into them resulting in “cloisons.” then fired to set the cells in the base enamel. The Byzantine Empire, 6th century AD, was the setting for gold cloisonné pieces of a religious nature. About the same time frame, the Japanese were producing scenes of nature. In China, cloisonné has been used since the 13th century AD. $75 ($5 tool deposit)
Autumn Colors : Yoga Walk and Hike in Nature taught by Ruth Ann Polito, RYT on Oct. 2 from 4:30 – 5:45 p.m.
We will meet at LAC/GVCA offices, then walk to Al Lorenz Park, traversing part of the Finger Lakes Trail. We will warm up with some yoga movement and breathing, pause at intervals for a variety of standing poses, then cool down. Trail is moderate, some uneven surfaces, some blacktop, some gravel, some lawn. Must have good balance.
