Merry Christmas Lima! Snow is here and snow removal has started. If you live in the Village it is the Village DPW (624-4525) plowing your street UNLESS you live on 5&20 or 15A or Michigan Avenue then it is the Town Highway Dept (582-1443). If you live outside the Village it is all the Town Highway Dept.
Kudos to the Rotary and Scouts who hosted the Lima golden Agers for a Thanksgiving dinner back on November 13th. It was a very tasty meal indeed. Special Thanks to Vanilla Lane for donating all the yummy pies!
Operation Green Light continues on here in Livingston county. Don’t forget to put your green lights in you window or on your porch to show support for our troops returning home. The Operation matches people back home with Veterans leaving the military to mentor them as they transition back to being a civilian. That first 12 months is critical. The goal is to stem the tide of Veteran Suicide. There will be many returning from the Middle East now that Afghanistan is closed down. Every little bit helps. Please do what you can. Call the Livingston County Veterans Services Agency at 585-243-7960.
The Town of Lima just received its designation as a Clean Energy community. Economic Development at the NYS level is tied to green/clean energy – has been for the past couple of years. Who knows where this will lead us?
There are still plenty of opportunities to volunteer to help better YOUR quality of life. If you are interested in talking about being the Official Lima Historian give me a call here at the Town Hall 582-1130. We are also looking for volunteers for the Planning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals, Agricultural Advisory Board, Library Board, Assessment board of Review, Historic Preservation Commission and the Ethics Board. You can see the list on our web site at www.lima-ny.org just click the Volunteer Opportunities Tab. Not a meeting person? Both the Ambulance and the Fire Dept are in need of volunteers too and they would love to have you join.
The Crossroads Festival planning is well underway. Mark your calendar for August 4 – 7. Plenty of room to volunteer here too. Meetings are the 3rd Thursday of each month. 6:30pm. The location moves around so call the Town Hall to find out where the meeting will be.
As you can see there are plenty of places to volunteer (and it is a very incomplete list). Pick one. Just one and make it your thing to do to help out. Lima is a great community and sharing your time and talent will help ensure it stays that way.
Back to pie. It is said that once you try warm sharp cheddar cheese with your apple pie you will never go back to ice cream. Back in the day the jingle was “Pie without the cheese is like the kiss without the squeeze.”
May the Holidays bring you Peace, see you around Town. MJF
