Hello Lima,
There was a little rain at the German Festival, but it was not the worst we have seen. Great crowds in spite of the weather. Mark your calendars for the 2nd Sunday in June next year. By the time you are reading this the July 4th Fireworks and the July 9th Mural Festival will be complete too. Be sure to stop by the south side of the Ellis Block (where JonnyB’s is) and take a look at our mural. Each of the 9 Livingston County Villages is receiving a mural. Check the website www.livcowalls.com and plan to tour them all!
It is also farmers market season once again. Tuesdays from 3 to 6 for fresh food and conversation right on the Presbyterian Church lawn.
The Crossroads Festival will be August 4th through 7th. The 4th is the Townwide parade followed by fundraiser concerts at the east and west tents. The parade will follow the same route: Garden St – South Lima Rd – Poplar Hill Rd. – Woodruff Rd – Plank Rd – Rochester St. – Corby Rd – Bragg St. – Martin Rd. – York St. – 5&20 – Michigan Ave. – Rainbow Lane – Meadowview Dr. – Michigan Ave. – Dalton Rd and ending in the ELIM parking lot just before the concerts start. Thank you to Bears Playgrounds for sponsoring the Thursday night East Tent Band so that entry is free. The rest of the music Friday, Saturday and Sunday at all locations is free. Saturday morning brings the crafters and kids games plus the bounce house, bungee trampoline and human car wash beginning at 10am. There is a scavenger hunt this year for kids. Pick up the scavenger hunt info at the information booth (right at the 5&20 end of the Presbyterian church lawn staffed by VFW Post 26). There will be Civil War Re-enactors again this year so be prepared for that cannon shot to officially start the bed races! It is not to late to enter your bedrace team. Grab some friends and sign up at www.lmafest.org late entries can sign up until noon on the day of the event. Saturday will also have the petting zoo with the cool animals including the kangaroo and for the first time the Pandemonium of Parakeets where you get to feed the birds – all of them at once! There are a lot of parakeets in that cage… Saturday Music goes into the evening. Sunday is the BBQ competition sponsored by JonnyB’s right over at the Firehouse parking lot on Main St. The Crossroads Church will hold a Sunday Service at the West Tent and then the bands start up and go until we close the Festival and the BBQ winner take home their trophy! There will also be a wine and beer tasting featuring local manufacturers and for the first time ever some games for teens on the lawn east of the Town hall Sunday afternoon. When you attend, take a good look at the long list of sponsors that make this festival free and favor them with your custom throughout the year. Thank you to my crew of volunteers who work 12 months a year to make this possible. If you are interested in sharing your time and talents – call me here at the Town Hall 582-1130.
Summer is fleeting – make the most of every moment. See you around Town. MJF
