On January 31, 2019 at 6:28 am, Troopers out of SP Lima were dispatched by the Livingston County 911 center to a motor vehicle accident on Clay Street, in the town of Lima, with an unresponsive driver. Upon arrival responding Troopers located a 2008 Chevrolet Impala in the snow off the east shoulder of the roadway. A preliminary investigation determined that the vehicle was traveling southbound on Clay Road at an unsafe speed for icy/snow covered roadway. The vehicle struck a snow drift in the lane causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle spun and struck a National Grid utility pole with the rear passenger side quarter panel. The driver does not appear to have been wearing his seat belt. The operator died as a result of the accident and was identified as Stephen J. Robertson, a 59 year old resident of Lima. The State Police were assisted by the Livingston County Sheriffs office, the Lima Fire department and Lima Volunteer ambulance.
