Hello Lima, Summer is here! And with it come the return to regular hours at the Town Hall. M,T, F 8am – 12 & 1pm – 4, W 9 am – 12, Th 12 noon to 7 pm – no appointments are needed. Bring your mask along and experience a return to normalcy. Call us at 582-1130 if you have any questions.
The Town Board will meet in person at the next meeting on July 7th. There will be a public hearing at that meeting regarding water rates for the TOWN water districts 1 – 4. This DOES NOT affect the Village water rates (The Village Board will set their own). The Monroe County Water Authority rate has gone up for the water. This means an increase for District 2 (15A north of the Village, Rexon, Slocum) and District 4 (Tupelo Trail).
The planning is still underway for the Lima Crossroads Blues Festival. Right now there will be fundraiser concerts on Thursday July 30th (to raise festival money). Yes, that means the Thursday shows will require a ticket. The money raised helps pay for the regular festival free music schedule and a portion is split between Mercy Flight Central and Teresa House. Contact Fanatics for Tickets @ 624-2080. Free music will be July 31 – Aug 2. The band list keeps changing as performers become available or drop out so the most up to date list is on the Festival Website www.limabluesfest.com. If you are a mask maker, this is your opportunity to sell at our craft & vendor market. Details are on the web site. Bedrace sign ups are on line too. Form a team and take your shot at winning this annual event. Also, this year the Fire Dept Auxilliary will be operating the Lima Bank Safe and the Old Time Jail raising funds for their good works.
It is hard to believe that the Festival has gone from bankruptcy to a budget of $25k – all donations from local businesses and citizens in the space of 14 years. If you see Dan Marcellus, thank him. He pulled the festival out of the fire – keeping it going and growing before handing it off to me.
I spent some time with the Town Engineering firm (Clark, Patterson, Lee) this week. Planning and measuring and final drawings so that we can go to bid on the elevator system. Perhaps by August? There are a lot of moving parts with this project so it is better to spend a bit more time planning.
The Town Highway crew continues to make good progress on the sidewalk from Rexon to the Lima Baptist Church Driveway. We will have to stop there until the Village finishes the water project that will dig up the lawn near the existing metering pit. Once that is finished we can continue south to the Village sidewalk and drive the golden spike!
Just a reminder if you are out walking where there is no sidewalk dress in bright colors or wear a vest or some kind of light beacon. Our country roads outside of the Village are great to walk on, but the traffic may not expect you to be there. Dressing the color of the pavement puts you at a disadvantage.
Enjoy the outdoors! See you around Town.
