LIVINGSTON COUNTY – Lifting Up Livingston, a brand new nonprofit cancer fundraising organization, promises to raise funds for Livingston County residents whose families are fighting cancer.
Lifting Up Livingston’s founders, Keirsten Shaffer, Eric Gott, Andrea Bailey, and Kevin Van Allen say that the organization is a vital foot soldier in the battle against cancer. Many of the founders have lost family members to the disease, and want to help others in their struggle to pay the bills and expenses that come with cancer treatment.
“There is a lot of national-scale help out there,” said Van Allen. “But those with family who have cancer know that the medical bills, and even little things like daily parking at Strong Memorial Hospital, are hard expenses to keep up with.”
The four founders, themselves Livingston County residents, established Lifting Up Livingston earlier this year. They have already held a successful benefit concert on July 31 2014 for a 22-year-old college graduate, who wishes to remain anonymous.
More than 150 people attended a benefit concert for the student, who was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in October 2012, on the Wadsworth Homestead in Geneseo.
Lifting Up Livingston’s founders appreciate the loving and supportive families that continue to volunteer and help each other.
“The need for help in fighting cancer is tremendous in Livingston County,” added Van Allen, “but there is also a tremendous influx of local residents who want to help.”
