Email to the Editor: Support Tom Dougherty

To the residents of Livingston County

I feel it is my responsibility to residents of this county to share my
knowledge and experience regarding Sheriff Candidate Tom Dougherty.

My law enforcement background started in 1997 where I worked for the
Village of Attica and the Village of Mt. Morris. In 1999 I started
full-time with Livingston County. I have worked in many Road Patrol
divisions ranging from the STOP DWI Unit, K-9 unit, S.W.AT. Team,
along with the Civil Division. I am currently a Sergeant on the Road Patrol,
as a first line supervisor. I currently oversee day to day Road Patrol
Operations. I have also  spent several years overseeing the Sheriff’s Civil
Division, along with the STOP DWI Unit. The reason I give you my background
is to help you understand the number of employees I have worked with in our
agency over the years.I have worked side by side and supervised a great number
of Deputies that have worked through the ranks. With nearly 15 years of
experience in the county, and over 8 as a supervisor I hope to give you an
internal perspective to help you chose the best candidate.

Tom Dougherty is like no other employee I have worked with. To be
honest I have a very “Type A” personality, and I am very competitive
in nature. With that being said I can say without any reservations
whatsoever. Tom Dougherty is the best “Cop” I have ever worked with.
He has over-achieved as a Deputy making an unbelievable impact on
illegal drug activity in our county. I don’t think there would be any
argument amongst our peers that Tom is our best Investigator. Tom is
sincere and caring, when dealing with the victims in our community.
He is unrelenting and persistent when it comes to solving crimes and
catching the bad guy. Simply put, Tom does not fail. He always
surpasses his goals, and he never quits.

The most important trait that comes natural to Tom Dougherty is his
ability to lead. A person could claim to have all the experience in
the world, but that does not make them a leader. In law enforcement,
much like the military if you don’t have the people behind you things
could become dangerous. When Tom looks over his shoulder he has an
unbelievable supporting cast with experience behind him. Including
myself as a Sergeant, several other Sergeants, Investigators,
Deputies, Dispatchers, Correction Deputies, State Troopers, and Police
Officers from numerous other agencies supporting Tom. This has been
seen throughout the county at different parades this summer, and it is
impressive! Tom is the only candidate that has been endorsed by the
Law Enforcement Community ranging from the New York State Police, the
Livingston County Deputy Sheriff’s Assoc. and the Dansville Police
Dept. If you take a moment and step back to take a look at this that
should tell you something. Why have all Law Enforcement endorsements
gone to Tom Dougherty? These people know the job. They do the job,
and have for many years. We are trying to let you know that our TRUST
is with Tom Dougherty. Tom is also the only candidate with a 4 year
degree in Business Administration, which was achieved right here at
SUNY Geneseo.

In closing, Tom Dougherty has the education for the business side of
being Sheriff. He is experienced, as one of the best “Cops” to come
through this county in a long time. He is caring and considerate,
when dealing with the needs of our community. He is a leader that has
unanimous support in the Law Enforcement Community, which will lead to
a much more seamless transition and much less burden to the county tax payer.

Tom is trusted and endorsed by Law Enforcement. Please help us in
choosing our next leader!!!
