CASTILE – A hiker in Letchworth State Park found more than a view of the gorge in coin-operated binoculars. He caught a peek into a heartwarming and growing tradition of hiding dollar bills with a blessing to cheer fellow inquisitive explorers.
Hiker Ryan Livingston posted to Facebook on Tuesday that he had found a tightly rolled-up dollar bill stuffed in the binoculars with a little note, ‘May your days be blessed and filled with much love, joy, happiness, laughter, family, friends, and wealth.’
“[…] wondering if I will ever find the person who put it there,” posted Livingston. “Really cool thing to find, and never in my thirty years alive have I found anything like it. So this will be framed and I will be putting several dollar bills with a similar message to brighten someone’s day hopefully, and maybe they will pay it forward. If anyone knows who put it there or maybe a way I can find out, please let me know!!!!”
Apparently this is not the first ‘dollar blessing’ to be hidden in Letchworth. Sara Martello quickly started chimed in with a photo of a dollar blessing that she found about a year ago, with the same message.
“A very nice and thoughtful treasure~~~If I found this, I would appreciate it also,” posted Marilyn Faber to Facebook. “I myself know that with random acts of kindness the person does not want to be known~~~Pass it on and have a peaceful day~~~”
The kind soul who left Livingston’s blessing is as of yet unknown. Livingston posted that he will indeed pay the tradition forward in some of his favorite nooks and spots in the park, making himself part of the charming mystery.
“Well I’ll definitely be putting at least 5 of them in different places so someone can have the same story to tell as me!!!” posted Livingston. “But the Dollar and the letter I found will be going in a frame lol”
