NYLON – Our very own Letchworth State Park has been officially named by USA Today Readers Choice as the best State park in the country for 2015.
According to news partner 13WHAM, after weeks of intense voting, Letchworth State Park named Best State Park for 2015, and representatives from the Park say that the accreditation will only grow the superpower park even further.
“Thank you to all the fans of Letchworth State Park who voted in the contest. From Facebook groups to individuals, Letchworth State Park has a loyal following and they let their voices be heard,” said Meghan Nulty, V.P. of Tourism and Marketing for the Wyoming County Chamber & Tourism. “The exposure for the Park has been tremendous and will introduce this great natural asset to countless visitors and encourage them to visit our area.”
Participants from across the country were able to vote for 20 finalists in the month-long contest. Letchworth was in a dead heat contest with a Michigan state park right up until the very end, proving that nationwide people love their state parks. Not to be left off the list, Watkins Glen State Park was voted number three in the top 10 list of parks. You can see the full list of winners here.
According to 10best.com, a website owned by USA Today, it was neck and neck throughout the voting period between two parks, Letchworth State Park in New York and Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park in Michigan. A panel of experts picked the initial 20 nominees, and the top 10 winners were determined by popular vote.
The earliest state parks in the United States date back to the mid 1800s, and today, the 50 states collectively manage well over 6,000 state park units that draw in over 700 million annual visitors.
