CASTILE – Hikers post photos of the fountain by the Glen Iris Inn almost daily as it continues to grow into an impressive ‘ice volcano’ with the cold weather apparently hunkered down and here to stay.
The fountain is kept on all year and normally freezes into towers like this. With sustained cold temperatures like these, it can grow to staggering heights.
Anyone standing by the fountain for just a few minutes will see visitors pull over to take photos and videos.
Temperatures are expected to remain plenty cold this week, poke above 32 degrees next Monday, and then go back down to around 20 by Wednesday, so the fountain is expected to keep growing for awhile.
The fountain made national headlines in 2015 in the record-cold temperatures of that February.
