LIVINGSTON COUNTY — It’s tradition that prior to Livingston County Board of Supervisors meetings that a distinguished veteran lead the Board through the pledge of allegiance, this week it was LeRoy Wood.
Livingston County Administrator, Ian Coyle, read aloud Lawrence’s Bio prior to the pledge:
LeRoy Wood was born in Poughkeepsie, New York. He graduated from the class of 1984 at Keshequa Central School in Nunda and holds a degree in Business Management from Tompkins Cortland Community College (TC3).
LeRoy enlisted in the U.S. Army and completed his basic training in 1984. In 1985, he laterally transferred into the US Navy in 1985 and retired with Honorable discharge in 2005. His duties include the USS ORION (AS-18), USS HOLLAND (AS-32), USS ENTERPRISE (CVN-65), Naval Recruiting Command Pensacola, Navy Recruiting Command Buffalo, and Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps Cornell-Ithaca. His military honors include Two Navy Commendation Medals, Four Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medals, Six Good Conduct Medals, Two National Defense Service Medals, Humanitarian Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist Insignia, and Instructor Qualified.
Upon completion of the military, LeRoy worked for eight years with the Livingston County Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation as Purchasing Coordinator and Director of Environmental Services. He participated as an adult leader, Troop Committee Chairperson and Assistant Scoutmaster to his local Boy Scout Troop and was able to watch his two sons earn the rank of Eagle Scout. He is a member of his local ambulance corps and became a New York State Certified Emergency Medical Technician along with serving in the capacity as Co-Captain of their corps. He currently serves is the Chief Fiscal Officer, Clerk-Treasurer for the Village of Nunda.
LeRoy has been married 29 years to his wife Theresa and they reside in Dalton, New York. They have two sons Philip and Thomas.
