MOUNT MORRIS — A Livingston County woman was arrested by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office for Welfare Fraud after after illegally obtaining over $1,000 worth of food stamps.
According to a press release from Livingston County Sheriff Thomas Dougherty, Damarys Pereira, 45, has been arrested and charged with Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree, a class E felony, Welfare Fraud in the Fourth Degree, a class E felony, and Misuse of Food Stamps, a class E felony.
The Sheriff’s Office alleges that Pereira did file for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), a food stamp program, and indicated the income in her household was only her income however did not disclose her husband’s income.
According to the Sheriff, Pereira obtained $1231.00 worth of services from Livingston County Department of Social Services. Pereira was arrested and arraigned in Mt Morris Town Court before Judge Lapiana. She will return back to court at a later date.
The investigation and arrest were handled by Investigator Dan Rittenhouse of the Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of Livingston County’s Department of Social Services Fraud Division.
