GENESEO — Fame hit Geneseo as Kirk Cameron walked into Cost Cutters looking for a haircut July 3.
Cameron is a childhood television star that is best known for his role as Mike Seaver on the television sitcom Growing Pains.
“He came in and said he needed a quick haircut and politely asked for one of our more experienced stylists,” said Casey Tonaus, hairstylist that cut Cameron’s hair.
Cameron is married to Chelsea Noble, who starred in Growing Pains as Kate McDonald, the girlfriend of Seaver. Noble attended SUNY Geneseo from 1983 to 1987.
“I had to put his name in the computer for the appointment and he said first name Kirk, and I said last name Cameron, he just smiled,” said Tonaus.
It is believed that Cameron has family that lives on Silver Lake in Perry and it is speculated that that could have been the reason for his visit.
“He is a very down to earth, humble guy, I don’t think he realizes that people still know who he is,” said Tonaus.
When asked to take a picture, Cameron graciously accepted and said that if had a childhood star that he was a fan of he would ask for a picture as well.
“In the five years I have worked here that was the first time a celebrity ever came here,” said Shannon Cooper, one of the Managers at Cost Cutters. “I really hope he comes back.”
Cameron paid $10 for the cut, it was their Wednesday special.
