GENESEO – Sitting Justice Brad Janson won Tuesday night’s election by a narrow margin over challenger Bill Brennan, retaining his place on the bench.
Janson is a practicing attorney in the village. Brennan is a retired SUNY Geneseo professor of Geological Sciences.

The final vote tally was 406 Janson, 380 Brennan, and 66 write-ins for alternate candidates.
Village Justices preside over criminal, vehicle and traffic, and civil courtroom proceedings in Village Court.
In New York State, there is no requirement that a Justice be an attorney or possess a law degree.
