CALEDONIA – The line was out the door and down State Street for hours on Saturday as hungry customers flocked to get their first taste of Jamison’s Real Wood BBQ.
Despite the long wait, faces coming out of 3180 State Street were all smiles. Sole owner and operator Jamison LiMuti, who lives in Henrietta, traveled the American South to experience as many regional barbecue flavors as possible before setting up shop in Caledonia.
“Our mission is to bring barbecue back to its roots,” said LiMuti. “We take pride in our work. Our goal is simple, great barbecue, ridiculously fast, with offerings for every budget.”
LiMuti spent the afternoon hard at work, cooking platter after platter on grills outside. Inside, the shelves are stacked with rows of Jamison’s BBQ Sauce and hickory logs for the grill. Eventually, Jamison’s will also be available to cater events. Some fans even went so far as to buy Jamison’s t-shirts and put them on before sitting down to eat.
Top-notch barbecue aside, local residents are happy to see a business go into 3180 State Street, which has long been in disuse.
“I moved here in 1989, and to be honest not much has changed,” said Joanna Van Chieri. “It is so nice to see a fresh new business in Caledonia. I think areas with the village feel are the best place to raise kids, and new businesses keep that going.”
Customers enjoyed live music by The Ruckus Juice Jug Stompers, Amy Montrois, and Roses and Revolutions. A face painter with Fancy Faces set up outside for much of the day.
