Congressman Chris Jacobs (NY-27) is announcing $18,729,000 in funding from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has been awarded to the towns of Bethany and Pembroke to update and development rural water systems.
“I applaud the USDA’s continued commitment into ensuring Western New York farmers and residents in rural communities have access to clean drinking water,” Jacobs said. “Many rural communities in my district have outdated water delivery systems. This funding helps modernize that infrastructure and will serve as an economic boost. I will keep working to ensure these investments and improvements are made so residents throughout our region are supported.”
“Securing this funding has been a major priority of mine. I want to thank the USDA for this funding and for the great rural development work they do. With this funding, Bethany will now be able to cover close to 90% of our town with public water service,” Carl Hyde Jr. – Bethany Town Supervisor, said.
The funding breakdown is as follows:
Town of Bethany: $16,680,000 in USDA loans to expand public water service to more residents and businesses located outside of existing service areas. Will also provide for replacing failing private well water systems, minimizing public health threats, and water for fire protection.
Town of Pembroke: $2,049,000 in USDA grants and loans to create a new water district and replace and repair failing private well water systems.
The grants and loans were awarded as part of a $374 million national investment through the USDA Water and Waste Disposal Grant and Loan Program to modernize rural drinking water and waste systems.
