LIMA — A Honeoye man found himself in a Livingston County Jail cell this morning after allegedly attempting to flee police while in an intoxicated state.
According to a press release from Livingston County Sheriff Thomas Dougherty, Michael J. Kalpin, 34, was charged with DWI, fleeing from a police officer, unlawful possession of marihuana, and numerous vehicle and traffic law violations.
The Sheriff states that at approximately 1:45 a.m. Deputy Shawn Whitford of the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, attempted to stop a vehicle that he allegedly observed commit a number a Vehicle and Traffic Law violations. The vehicle was first observed in the area of York Street and Corby Road, a vehicle pursuit ensued when the operator failed to stop for the Deputy. The pursuit concluded after the operator crashed his vehicle into a snow embankment on Reed Road, just off Richmond Mills Road in the Town of Richmond, Ontario County.
Kalpin was arraigned in Lima Town Court and was remanded to the custody of the Sheriff in lieu of $1,000 cash bail or $2,000 secured bond. Kalpin is being held in the Livingston County Jail. Kalpin’s New York State driver’s license was also secured pending a hearing with the NYS Department of Motor vehicles. Investigating the incident were Deputies Shawn Whitford, Deputy Michael Wade (STOP DWI Unit), Connor Sanford (STOP DWI Unit) and Sergeant James Merrick. Also assisting were Sheriff’s Deputies of the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office.
