INTERSTATE 390: Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty reports the arrest of three (3) people on drug related charges after a traffic stop on Interstate 390. On February 25, 2019 Deputy Shawn Whitford was assigned to the Sheriff’s Office Operation Safe Interstate initiative when he stopped a vehicle on Interstate 390 for a violation of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law.

During the course of the traffic stop, the Deputy Sheriff smelled the odor of marijuana emanating from inside the vehicle and initiated a roadside drug investigation. As a result of the roadside investigation, 37 year old Tracy L. Griffin from Sinclairville NY who was a passenger in the vehicle was alleged to have been in possession of crack cocaine, a smoking device, and drug packaging including over fifty (50) new glassine bags located in the glove box of the vehicle. It is also alleged that Griffin attempted to destroy contraband on her person during the investigation, as she made admissions to eating an illegal substance.
Griffin was arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree, two (2) counts of Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia in the 2nd Degree, and felony Tampering with Physical Evidence. Another passenger in the vehicle, 17 year old Maelyn Ordway from Salamanca NY, was arrested and charged with Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia in the 2nd Degree as it is alleged that she possessed a drug smoking device.
The driver of the vehicle, 29 year old Preston S. Blackshear from Rochester NY, is alleged to have been in possession of marijuana and was charged with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana. Blackshear was released on an appearance ticket to answer the charge in court at a later date.
Griffin be held on $3,000 cash or $6,000 bond. Griffin and Ordway were later arraigned at the Livingston County Centralized Arraignment
Part (LC-CAP) at the Livingston County Jail before Town of Mount Morris Justice David Provo. The Judge remanded Griffin to the custody of the Sheriff on the recommended bail of $3,000 cash or $6,000 bond. Ordway was also remanded to the custody of the Sheriff on $250 cash bail or $500 bond.
a body cavity search based on the observations of the Deputy Sheriff and collaborating evidence and Judge Dennis Cohen of Livingston County Court signed the search warrant. Griffin was found to have concealed over ten (10) grams of crack cocaine inside her person.
As a result, Griffin was additionally charged with several felonies. Those charges were Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 4th Degree, Tampering with Physical Evidence, and Promoting
Prison Contraband in the 1st Degree.
