: Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty advises of the arrest of a Livingston County Jail inmate on felony criminal mischief charges.
Jacob E. Melvin, age 28, was arrested for felony Criminal Mischief charges following an investigation. On October 17, 2020, Jail Division members were dealing with a medical emergency for an inmate in the facility. During this medical event inmate Melvin allegedly became irate that he could not come out of his cell to call his family member, at which time he repeatedly kicked his housing cell door causing the glass to break.
The cost to repair the cell door was $844. Melvin was charged with Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree, a class E felony.
Jacob Melvin is currently housed at the Livingston County Jail as a federal inmate being held for the United States Marshals Service out of Buffalo NY.
Melvin was processed by Booking Deputies on the felony charge and issued an appearance ticket. Melvin is scheduled to appear in the Village Court of Geneseo at a later date.
Investigating the incident were members of the Jail Division, with the shift leadership of Jail Division
Corporal Joshua Daly.
