LIMA — Richard G. Willson, a homeowner found near his burned home in late May, has been arrested and charged with Arson in the Third Degree upon his release from Strong Memorial Hospital.
Willson was found on May 28 at 7146 College St in the Village of Lima with third degree burns on his right foot and lower left leg. A thorough investigation into the fire alleges that Willson did pour gasoline inside the residence, attempting to burn it down.
“Willson was just released from the hospital,” said Brian Aplan of the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office. “He did make a statement to investigators that suggests he started the fire.”
Willson was being treated at Strong Memorial Hospital for his injuries at the time of the investigation. He could not be formally charged until he was released from the hospital.
Willson was arraigned in Lima Town Court. Judge Luhowy remanded Willson to the Livingston Cointy Jail with $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 bond.
Sheriff Deputies Stephanie Schroeder and Brittany Smyder carried out the arrest.
