Livingston County Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty reports the arrest of a Steuben County resident on drug related charges after a traffic stop.
On October 5, 2019 at approximately 5:30 pm, Deputy Shawn Whitford was assigned to the Sheriff’s Office Operation Safe Interstate initiative when he stopped a vehicle on Interstate 390 for a violation of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law.
During the course of the traffic stop, the Deputy Sheriff suspected that the occupants in the vehicle were involved in drug activity and conducted a roadside drug investigation. The roadside investigation revealed that a passenger in the vehicle, Joey L. McComas age 42 from Lindley NY, was in possession of methamphetamine (meth) and marijuana.
McComas was arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana. McComas was turned over to Central Booking Deputies at the Livingston County Jail for processing and pre-arraignment detention.
McComas was later arraigned at the Livingston County Centralized Arraignment Part (LC-CAP) at the Livingston County Jail before Village of Geneseo Justice Thomas Bushnell. The Judge released McComas on his own recognizance (ROR).
Starting January 1st of 2020 these types of offenses will all be issued an appearance ticket as judges cannot hold or set bail on the subjects per recently passed state law.
